Rambler Navigation Description
This watch face is actually a location and magnetic sensor based tool, that navigates the user to predefined points in terrain. Use while trekking, mushrooming, sailing, cycling, paragliding - in any place without landmarks, where maps won't tell you much. It'll take you to the shelter or bring you back to the car. You can save your current location as "Home", "Loc1" or "Loc2" directly from your watch. The two latter may also be entered manually in the companion settings app.Caution: Some options described below are unavailable in the free version (grayed out in settings). You may buy the pro version here: https://www.google.com/url?q=http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.nwg.dev.wear.ramblerpro
The application displays 4 configurable widgets in active mode, and 4 more in ambient mode. The value shown may be selected separately for every widget. Currently available:
- time of sunrise
- time of sunset
- time left to sunrise
- time left to sunset
- azimuth
- current bearing
- current speed (SPD)
- Average Speed (AVG)
- Maximum Speed (MSP)
- Estimated Time Enroute (ETA)
- Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)
- distance made (DST)
- time elapsed (ELA)
Owners of square watches may configure 4 more widgets in corners of the screen. You'll find them in the on-phone settings: scroll to the very bottom.
The application works in two modes: location based and compass based. The first one is useful in movement. When you point the watch at your movement direction, the blinking, radius pointer shows your target. Set it up in on-phone settings, or save the location in on-watch settings (press and hold the screen, select the gear icon), and the watch will show you the direction, and whatever data you select in widget. On arrival the navigation stops, and the trip stats appear in a notification.
The MOB button in on-watch configuration launches the Man Over Board mode. Your current location is being saved as the target, and navigation starts.
When you move slowly, or location data are inaccurate for some reason (e.g while in the forest), you can switch to the compass based mode. For it to work properly, it must be calibrated. Stay away from magnetic fields, press and hold the watch screen to enter settings (select the gear icon). You'll be prompted to calibrate. Now you can either hold the watch up in front of you and wave it around in a figure 8 pattern, or rotate it slowly in all three axes. You must find out on your own which of those methods fits better you and your watch. Be patient. :)
Battery consumption: If you'd like to use Rambler as your daily watch face, make sure if you've checked "Low power GPS" in settings. This option in no way decreases your location accuracy, and lets the watch connect to the phone only when necessary. Keep in mind, that, while navigating (target selected, and not yet reached), your watch will consume much more power than any regular watch face.
The sunrise and sunset widgets base on the SunriseSunsetLib library by Mike Reedell. It may not work properly in all possible locations. If it happens to you, you may always turn it off. You have been warned. ;)

MANY THANKS to Afonso Santos for countless ideas, beta testing, and great pictures. The application would not be half as useful without your help!
